May-June 1956 Nudism Around The World

Dalmatia

In 1954 our naturist friend Joschy Peter (Verein far Freie Korperkultur, Wien) rented 2 villas on the island of Rab (Artie) in Dalmatia, where his Austrian friends could spent their holidays; in 1955 he rented already 5 villas and welcomed also a lot of foreign naturist friends. This action ran from May 1st until October 15th and was fully sold out in 1954 as well as in 1955. Also in 1956 those villas will be open for the naturist friends from all over the world. Bathing in the nude is practiced in the so-called "English Ray." In 1954, 216 naturists visited Rab, in 1955 164 friends from Western Germany.

They all enjoyed a lovely holiday on the fascinating island of Rab in the sense of naturism—free of all clothing, bathing in the sun, air, light and in the really blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. The naturist villas are very clean ; they are situated directly at the seaside.

Germany

In our November news bulletin we reported on the verdict of the Supreme Court of Justice for the land Northrhine Westphalia where it has been decided that it is not considered illegal nor endangering young people to be taken by their parents to the naturist sauna attended by both sexes. The President of the administrative district of Arnsberg had made an appeal against this decision, yet now he withdrew it. So the verdict has become valid.

FKK in Frankreich (Naturism in France)

The Editorial firm Richard Danehls, Hamburg, published this' very fascinating booklet which contains numerous fine illustrations. It gives a good description of the development and of the situation of the French movement.

We wish and hope that this booklet will widely spread. The statement that the new members in France mainly originate from the youth, is especially interesting. This means a great progress, which should be a strong encouragement for other nations.

Sauna

UNDER the title "Sauna—the Finnish Bath," a booklet has been written by II. J. Viheriuuri, published by Kustannusosakeyhtio Otava, Ilclsingissa. This booklet gives valuable details about the history, equipment and application of the Sauna-Bath in the country where it comes from. Furthermore, it contains fine illustrations and sketches. It is published in Finnish, Swedish, English and German. We are sure that it means a valuable contribution to naturist literature.

World Congress, Hanover

Our Swiss friend, Professor Werner Zimmermann, has promised to hold a lantern slide lecture on the subject "Physical Culture All Over the World" as the prologue to the "DFK Arbeitswoche" on Saturday, August 18th. Therewith friend Zimmermann will open the series of lectures with which we shall represent our movement to the public on the occasion of the 5th World Congress.

From Hanover to Berlin

Our naturist friends from Berlin have heartily invited all participants of the 5th World Congress to come to Berlin West to see their camp of "Ileiligensee" and to stay some days in the "most interesting city of the world." If a sufficient number of people join in, a common journey will be organized. So we ask all friends to announce their intention to go to Berlin as well—if possible—with their announcement for the Congress itself, and to indicate how many days they want to stay in Berlin.

Egypt

During my tour, I have had the chance of meeting our friend M. Lecocq, Paris, quite often, and have also met once Mr. Hodgson of the BSBA. Although I have passed by Switzerland, I had no time to meet our friends there. In Paris, I was heartily received by M. Lecocq, and have had the opportunity of swimming many a time in closed swimming-pools at night. I have also visited the "Club du Soleil" in Paris, and have met the FFN's delegate at Bordeaux during my short stay in that town. Unfortunately I did not go to Montalivet as it was the beginning of winter and as I was told that hardly anybody will be found there. It is the same in England and I did not visit a club, as I stayed for a very short time, and the weather was rather cold. Unfortunately, there is no naturist pool in the heart of London, as in Paris. Anyway you can-not imagine how I enjoyed my visits either in the swimming pools or the Club du Soleil. The spirit prevailing is simply wonderful and beyond reproach whatsoever. Men, women and children swimming and playing together with friendly spirit. I have met nothing but healthy people, sane in spirit and mind. Frankly, it is wonderful that such things exist in some countries, and I doubt very much whether at this end, we shall ever get to the same standard and level as Overseas. In the course of time, groups would be formed over here, but I am really afraid that however hard we try, we simply could not reach the same success as abroad.

Germany

The novel "Der Marchenpastor vom Abessinienstrand" (the fairy parson of the naturist beach) by Fritz Dittmer-Lichtblick will be published soon.

JAPAN

R. Rakan Oikawa, the President of the Japanese Niko Niko Nudist Club has re-ported on the naturist movement in his country: "The Niko Niko Hadaka Club (what literally means "Ever Smiling Nudist Club") is the only-club in Japan that relates to naturism. The club, having its Headquarters in Tokyo and branches in a few cities, has permanent members and alot of sympathizers; I am its President. My club is the voluntary organization, non-profit making association catering to naturism, and contributing to Public Health. Our Motto is "Sound in Health and Mind; let us contribute to the peace of the world!"

I have been working for this movement for these 30 years and now its expanse covers the whole country, from the northernmost island. Kokkaido, to the south, Kyusho. Our aims and objects are intrinsically just the same as yours.

According to Mr. Lanepart's (Hong Kong) suggestion. I reorganized my club. At the General Meeting, I intend to move my club to become a member of INF/FNI, and I hope I shall be successful. Needless to say that you shall be kept informed of the development. The contents of your "Interview." that you were kind enough to send to me will be fully gone through.
